Piece of My Heart Timeline

Bert Berns is one of the most influential rock and soul songwriters and producers – that you’ve never heard of. You know his songs (Twist and Shout, I Want Candy, and Piece of My Heart to name a few), but his story was left untold until Piece of My Heart, the musical. The show is about his life, death, and artistic legacy. His songs are still widely enjoyed today, not only in their original recordings but also as covered by current pop artists. We wanted to show how influential his life and music have been for generations of music lovers. Using historic photos, album covers, and typography, we developed this timeline to highlight the many iconic music moments from his life and career. The timeline was a physical installation at the Signature Theatre where the show debuted, and currently lives on in print and digital expressions. Rock on, Bert Berns!
