OVERVIEW

The New York Times Theater Directory is a daily advertising opportunity in the Arts and Leisure section of the paper. Except for the logo, these paid listings can have no images – only text. This limitation inspired an idea that had never been done before or since in this section. Using the concept of text art (sometimes called ASCII art), we created an image similar to the crown in the SIX logo using only text symbols. The New York Times gave us special approval to run it initially, and we have continued with the creative every day since!
