THE SUMMARY
Off-Broadway’s Rolling Thunder musical teamed up with New York’s thrill ride The BEAST at its brand-new downtown location for Rolling Thunder Thursday themed rides throughout the month of August, featuring a playlist of the songs from Rolling Thunder on board the boat, show-themed trivia, and the chance to win tickets to the show. This was The BEAST’s first-ever partnership with a theatre show.
THE CHALLENGE
The show was new to the US, relatively unknown, and the central concept of the Vietnam War made it hard for people to envision a good time. The show had an incredible jukebox soundtrack of ’60s and ’70s rock hits, so we wanted to highlight the fun of the music.
THE INSIGHT
People want to have a fun-filled experience in New York that combines attractions with culture, and those attractions want to partner with cultural institutions.
THE IDEA
The idea was to partner with a New York attraction that was popular with families and tourists and would highlight the rock and roll music of the show.
THE EXECUTION
There was a custom landing page on The BEAST website that called out the partnership and the dates it was running. We took the cast and crew on a special preview ride to capture content of the themed ride. The partnership was announced via press release and through a collaborative post on social media.
THE RESULTS
The partnership received press and social media buzz, plus direct promotion to over 700 BEAST riders throughout the run.
