TPG’s November Theatre Guide

If you’re thankful for theatre, then this is your month! November is an Off-Broadway feast that will leave you feeling full of theatrical goodness. Here’s a quick taste of the shows that really take the turkey:

New York Comedy Festival – Carly Aquilino and Jessimae Peluso

What is it?

These two New York-based comedians, and regulars on MTV’s Girl Code, continue the NYC funny business on Saturday, November 8 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

These funny ladies serve up some deliciously raw humor where nothing is off-limits and everything makes you laugh out loud.

Manxmouse: The Mouse Who Knew No Fear

 What is it?

Manxmouse may not look like any mouse you’ve ever seen, but what really sets him apart is his fearlessness when it comes to adventure! This adaptation of the classic children’s book comes to the stage as part of the Big Red Chair series.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

It’s perfect for families. Even J.K. Rowling, the queen of children’s literature, calls this tale a favorite!

DISENCHANTED!

What is it?

When it comes to the way they’ve been portrayed in movies and books today, these pretty princesses are pretty pissed off – and it’s hilarious!

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

You don’t need a magic mirror on the wall to tell you that this show is the fairest – and funniest – new musical comedy of them all!

50 Shades! The Musical

What is it?

The original musical of the book we all know you’ve read, Fifty Shades of Grey, is also the funniest parody around…and the most popular – it’s just been extended.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

Whether laughter is your biggest turn on, or you’d prefer sexy shirtless dancing men: this show has it all!

Odd Birdz

What is it?

It’s sketch comedy like you’ve never seen from the hilarious Israeli theatre company Tziporela.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

You should never have regrets when it comes to great comedy, and this hysterically funny show is only here until November 19!

Lips Together, Teeth Apart

What is it?

Terrence McNally’s 1992 play about all the things said – and unsaid – between two couples over a classic summer weekend on Fire Island.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

It makes you laugh. It makes you think. It makes you remember why you love theatre.

Tail! Spin!

What is it?

It’s the season’s best-reviewed new comedy, that’s what it is. Plus, it’s got a hilarious cast including SNL alum Rachel Dratch.

Why you’ll be thankful you saw it:

No matter who you voted for on Election Day, laughing about the sex scandals of Anthony Weiner, Mark Foley, Larry Craig, and Mark Sanford is something we can all agree on.
