The Pekoe Group Helps Build Schools in Africa

It has been said that generosity is a powerful force in business. I read somewhere that if you want something in your life, you should help bring it to another person and then you will be able to receive it as well. Cool idea, right? There are many reasons to give. But, to me, the best one is simple – giving makes me feel good. Giving warms my heart. In addition, I have a soft spot for helping and supporting women & girls around the world, which is one reason we are so excited to be working on Eve Ensler’s new play Emotional Creature, opening in NYC on October 26th. There is a very exciting and empowering movement surrounding the show, which we will talk more about later.

But back to the subject of giving… I heard about this fantastic organization last week called The Unstoppable Foundation. They have an awesome program, offering life-changing services to communities in Africa that especially benefit women and children. The services they offer include digging wells, building schools, and medical treatment for villagers. Upon learning about all they do, we felt is was an opportunity to make a HUGE difference in many people’s lives, so we sent in a donation.

Our donation will help a village of approximately 250 children and community members receive what The Unstoppable Foundation call the five pillars of sustainable education. These pillars include: (1) A newly constructed schoolhouse and educational programming. (2) Clean water and sanitation. (3) Healthcare. (4) Food and nutrition. (5) Training for the parents on how to generate an alternative income, so the entire project is self-sustaining. The goal is to have the community members complete & sustain all five pillars within five years.

These communities are committed to education and lifting themselves out of poverty. All they need are the tools and resources to make it happen. We are one step closer to bringing education not only to this community, but also ultimately to every child.

How awesome is that?! We are super grateful to support this amazing foundation. Our involvement has left us feeling that anything is possible. It doesn’t get much better than that!
