Beyond Therapy Opens at Theatre Row
The Actors Company Theatre has a new show at Theatre Row and it’s totally rad. The hilariously zany, perfectly crazy, 1982 comedy Beyond Therapy opened last night and you have to go see it. Here are five reasons why:
1. Christopher Durang wrote it. Know who he is? Of course you do. He’s the king of wacky, absurdist comedy. Not to mention, he wrote Vonya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which won the Tony Award for Best Play last year.
2. It’s being done by TACT. You know, that amazing New York repertory theatre company that puts really great, forgotten or rarely seen plays back on stage where they belong. (In fact, Beyond Therapy hasn’t been seen in New York since 1982.) But you probably already know about TACT. So does The Wall Street Journal. They called them the “Company of the Year.”
3. It’s crazy… in all the right ways. Crazy blind dates, crazy therapy sessions, and crazy laughs. This show is about “the search for a meaningful relationship in an insane world” and it’s freakin’ hysterical.
4. It’s way 80s. You’ll be transported to the days of hot pink, Members Only jackets, and synthesizers. It’s like totally righteous.
5. We loved it. And we know what we’re talking about.
Beyond Therapy is playing through April 19th at The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row. Seriously, go see it.
