Sure, 1961 to 1967 were very kind to Bert Berns, but 2014 is shaping up to be a landmark year in the timeline of the rhythm & blues pioneer. In late April, Music Journalist Joel Selvin released his book, Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues. The musical biography, Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story, is twisting and shouting Off-Broadway this summer, and the last in the multimedia campaign trifecta to get Bert’s name out there, BANG! The Story of Bert Berns, a documentary featuring Sir Paul McCartney and many of Bert’s closest colleagues praising his seven years of successful contributions to rock and roll, is in the works.
