The League of Extraordinary Ladies

On Monday night, the ladies from The Pekoe Group headed over to The Pershing Square Signature Center, where we sat beneath a beautiful ceiling of hanging flowers (fresh from the set of Big Love) and watched as incredible women with stunning careers in theatre were honored at the Second Annual LPTW Awards Ceremony. Mary-Mitchell Campbell (The Lee Reynolds Award) reminded us that we can save the world with her foundation ASTEP – Artists Striving To End Poverty; Donyale Werle (The Ruth Morley Design Award) left us feeling excited to open the door to creativity; Sandra A. Daley-Sharif (The Josephine Abady Award) helped us remember that we all have rich stories to tell; Rachel Dickstein (The LPTW Lucille Lortel Award) inspired us to find beauty; and Kathleen Chalfant (The Lifetime Achievement Award) brought us to our feet in celebration of the “important enterprise” we are all a part of. At the end of the ceremony, host Kristine Nielsen summed it all up perfectly: “Wow.”

Then, we mingled. Big.

It was a fabulous night for women and theatre. The sense of community was palpable, the positive energy was abundant, and the mini pulled pork appetizers were out-of-control amazing.

If you don’t already know, the League of Professional Theatre Women is a super cool organization dedicated to promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in professional theatre. Plus, Amanda is on the board!
